About Gus & Katie

Husband and Wife team, Gus and Katie Adams, are the face of the business. From a young age,  Gus, an Accredited Master Builder, has always loved building and believes it’s in his genes. His first  two tools were a broom and a shovel, and as his tool shed has grown, so has his love and skill in  historic preservations and fine home remodeling. Katie has an affinity for architecture and old  homes. She grew up in a family that enjoyed renovating homes and has owned a mid-century  modern design store. Now, she brings her sense of style and expertise to Adams & Adams to help  her clients design their perfect home environment.

Family History

Gus’s family background largely contributes to his passion and love for construction. He grew up in Jackson, Mississippi but his roots run deep in Asheville—just like his great grandfather, grandfather, and father. In 1906 his great grandfather, Judge Junius G. Adams, Sr. and his brother John S. Adams opened Adams and Adams Attorneys at Law which was the inspiration for Adams & Adams Construction’s name. Judge Adams was also the trustee to the Biltmore Estate, started the Biltmore Dairy, helped organize the transport of our National Treasures to be hidden at the Estate during WWII, was instrumental in having the Estate open to the public, and was the first Mayor of Biltmore Forest among other historical Asheville events. Gus is very proud to be a part of the Adams’ family.
I was the kid that took things apart and put them back together. When we needed to build a bike ramp, a fort, or a wrestling ring, I was the go to. All of my mother’s brothers are engineers, mechanics, or construction trade contractors. Construction is in my blood. My first two tools were a broom and a shovel and as my tool collection grew, so did my love of construction.”

Company History

Gus and Katie officially opened Adams & Adams in 2010 with a focus on fine home renovation and historic preservation. Both love the challenge that these types of projects offer. The firm is selective about the type of projects they accept and typically manages three large projects a year, fitting in interesting smaller projects, as time allows.

In 2021, Katie & Gus jointly received their Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Historic Preservation from UNC Greensboro School of Interior Architecture.

Gus has been a member of the Asheville Home Builders Association for just under 10 years, joining to surround himself with others who, like him, strive to make an impact in their industry. He is motivated to consistently continue to educate himself and assist in the education of others. He was humbly honored to have received the 2019 Asheville Home Builders Association Builder of the Year Award.

Famous Last Words

Gus has achieved so much in his personal career but says, “ My wife, Katie, is my biggest supporter and all of my success is because of her.”
